Our mission is to help companies
get mentally and emotionally balanced expats
and hereby making every expatriation a success.
Why are we doing this?
Going abroad often turns out a more challenging endeavour than expected in the beginning. Once struggling, most expats will be reluctant to tell the HR department or someone else in the expatriating company about their challenges. Instead, the family is trying to solve everything themselves – which often results in a vicious downward spiral.
For the company, this may lead to high costs because of premature returns from abroad. For the family, in the worst case, it leads to a breakdown and divorce. In fact, this is not a rare incident: depending on the source, 30-50% of families break apart as a direct consequence of an expatriation. And typically, this is preceded by lots of struggles – accompanied by a drastic performance dip at work.
It does not have to be that way
What is important to know for the expats, their families and companies: most of those challenges are very common, so they are not alone. Because they are so common, there are experts out there providing services exactly around those topics.
This is one of the core elements of Expat Happiness’ service: to source the best available experts covering all common problems that arise before, during and after expatriations. We have researched and hand-picked the relevant competences, so that you and your international staff get delivered the solutions you need at the right time.
From coaching to a more holistic approach
Founder Franziska Luxhøj
Since she can remember, Franziska has been fascinated by different cultures, psychology and languages. This is reflected in many choices throughout her life. In her studies, she among others chose International Organisational Behaviour as her specialisations, and she completed her double master degree in International Business & Management at 5 different universities in 4 countries.
Since 2007, she has been living abroad, in Denmark and the Netherlands. Through her own experience of living abroad and in an intercultural relationship, and the coaching service she has been providing for several years, she is deeply acquainted with the challenges expat families can encounter.
After providing coaching for individuals and groups for some time, the idea for the Happy Abroad Summit and the Happy Abroad Club came from a realisation that the challenges encountered often are so specific, that they need experts dedicated to very tailored niches. Franziska’s vision with the Expat Happiness offering is that every expat (family) can find a solution to exactly the problem that they have in any given moment – through the collaborative effort of global top experts.
